Privacy & cookie policy

The short version: we don’t collect your personal information, we don’t run ads, and the only tracking on this site comes from the affiliate links that keep it free to use. The long version follows.

1. Who we are

The Matchday Look (“we”, “us”) operates thematchdaylook.co.uk, an independent, unofficial football fashion curation site based in the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for any personal data collected through this site. Contact: thegaffer@thematchdaylook.co.uk.

2. What personal data we collect

This site has no accounts, no checkout and no comment system. The personal data we handle is limited to:

  • Email correspondence. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply, and we keep it no longer than needed for that purpose.
  • Newsletter sign-up (if and when offered). Your email address, used only to send the newsletter you asked for. Every email will include an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider may record standard technical data (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps) for security and reliability. These logs are routine for virtually every website and are not used to identify or profile visitors.

3. Affiliate links — the important bit

This site earns money through affiliate marketing. Product links on this site are, or may become, affiliate links. When you click one, the affiliate network or retailer may set cookies or use similar technologies in your browser so that, if you go on to make a purchase, the retailer knows the visit came from this site and we receive a small commission. This never changes the price you pay.

We participate, or have applied to participate, in the following programmes. The cookies involved are set and controlled by these companies, not by us, and their use of your data is governed by their own privacy policies:

ProgrammeOperated byWhat it doesTheir policy
Amazon Associates Amazon Europe Core S.à.r.l. / Amazon.co.uk Sets cookies when you click an Amazon link so purchases can be attributed to this site. Amazon Privacy Notice
Awin Awin AG / Awin Ltd Tracks clicks on links to Awin advertisers (e.g. fashion retailers) to attribute sales. Awin Privacy Policy
Sovrn Commerce Sovrn, Inc. Automatically converts eligible retailer links into tracked affiliate links. Sovrn Privacy Policy
Skimlinks Skimbit Ltd (Connexity / Taboola group) Automatically converts eligible retailer links into tracked affiliate links. Skimlinks Privacy Policy
eBay Partner Network eBay Inc. Sets cookies when you click an eBay link so purchases can be attributed to this site. eBay User Privacy Notice

Amazon requires us to say this plainly, so here it is: As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. The Matchday Look is a participant in the Amazon EU Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.co.uk.

Affiliate links on this site are marked — with a “Paid link” label, the disclosure at the top of each product section, or both.

4. Cookies

Cookies set by us: none. This site does not set its own cookies and does not show advertising.

Cookies set by others: the affiliate cookies described in section 3, which are set only when you click an outbound product link — not on ordinary browsing of this site. Retailers’ cookies typically expire after a period set by the retailer (Amazon’s standard attribution window, for example, is 24 hours from the click).

Controlling cookies: you can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings, and you can browse this site fully with cookies disabled. Blocking affiliate cookies simply means we would not earn a commission on your purchase.

5. Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics (such as Plausible) to see which pages are read, in aggregate. This kind of tool does not use cookies, does not track you across sites and does not identify individuals. If we ever adopt an analytics or marketing tool that requires consent under UK law, we will ask for that consent with a banner before it runs — not after.

6. Legal bases

Where UK GDPR applies, we rely on: legitimate interests (running, securing and improving the site, and earning affiliate commission from links you choose to click); consent (newsletter sign-up, and any future consent-based tools); and legal obligation where we are required to keep records.

7. Sharing and international transfers

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it except with service providers who host the site or deliver email on our behalf. The affiliate networks listed above operate internationally, so a click on an affiliate link may involve processing outside the UK, under those companies’ own safeguards as described in their policies.

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the personal data we hold about you, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to data portability. Since we hold almost nothing, the fastest route is to email thegaffer@thematchdaylook.co.uk — we’ll respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).

9. Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

10. Third-party sites

Product links take you to retailers’ websites. Once you leave this site, the retailer’s own privacy policy applies. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third-party sites.

11. Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes (for example, joining a new affiliate network) will be reflected in the table in section 3.
